UPPERMILL Cricket Club are staging Twenty20 match for local league legend Cec Wright on Friday, August 1 (start 6.15pm).

A mixed Uppermill and Crompton XI, including Dave and Pete Roberts, James Baron, Alex Griffiths, Simon Wright, Josh Tolley, Denis Louis, Marlon Black, Mel Austin, Michael Brooks and Cloete Buitendag, will face a Rest of the World XI, featuring the likes of Heyside professional Shadley van Schalkwyk, Micklehurst’s Peter Skuse, Martin Smith, of Norden, Moorside’s Grant Hodnett and Mel Whittle, of Friarmere. Grant Jones will keep wicket.

Cec still turns his arm over at the age of 80 for Uppermill’s second team, 55 years after he first came to this country to succeed Sonny Ramadhin as Crompton’s pro in the CLL.

A Caribbean-themed disco will follow match. Entry is free.
