Hollinwood denied by duo

Date published: 28 July 2014

SEVENTH-WICKET pair Tom Avery and Steven Howard held firm to clinch Saddleworth’s place on Twenty20 Cup finals’ day, writes KEVIN RICHARDSON.

They came together with their side teetering on 68 for six, still requiring another 67 runs for victory against Hollinwood at Lime Lane.

However, Avery and Howard proceeded to deny the hosts — they recorded unbeaten knocks of 44 and 43 respectively — to achieve their target with nine balls to spare.

Heyside, the holders, reached their sixth finals’ day with a 48-runs success at home to Greenfield.

Nick Campbell hit a vital 36 not out in the home side’s total of 148, before Carl Newton collected four for 24 as the visitors were dismissed for exactly 100.

Finals’ day is on Bank Holiday Monday August 25, at a venue to be decided.
