Saddleworth and District Cricket League by KEVIN RICHARDSON

SADDLEWORTH won’t let leaders Glodwick out of their sights.

Brian Lord’s men cut the deficit to 19 points at the top of the table following a comprehensive 10-wicket success over Wythenshawe, who slumped to 89 all out at Well-i-Hole.

Martin Kyle, with 51 not out, led the home side’s victory charge.

Glodwick’s advantage in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League still remains a significant one after a 32-runs defeat of hosts Whalley Range.

Playing without a professional as Rehan Rafiq recovers from severe concussion, the high-fliers made 262, thanks to knock of 77 and 66 from Mark Whitehead and Shahid Mahmood respectively. Sajid Mahmood took five for 62.

Whalley Range, spearheaded by Paul Davies’ 94 and Zarrar Malik’s 67, completed their 45 overs on 230 for seven. Shahid Mahmood’s figures were five for 54.

Heyside paid man Shadley van Schalkwyk became the first player to 1,000 runs in the league and Tanner Cup this season after making 55 not out — two sixes and five fours — in his third-placed team’s two-wicket victory at Uppermill.

Andrew McVeigh (58) and captain Dave Roberts (40) were the hosts’ main men with the bat in a total of 228.

McVeigh’s innings came off 66 balls and included two sixes and seven fours, while the last half-a-dozen wickets fell for 31 runs.

Roberts’ opposite number, Ryan Barnes, picked up four for 45 on a turning track.
