DERBY-DAY spoils went to Werneth and Crompton in the Lake Garage Central Lancashire League.

As the temperatures soared into the high 20s at the Coppice, visitors Royton took first knock against Premier Division rivals Werneth, but skipper Matt Taylor took three for 52 and Rashid Khan four for 32 as Denny Hulme’s men were bowled out for 160.

Liam Brown top-scored with 70, while Chris Toy added 31.

In-form Werneth remain rooted to the foot of the table, but cruised to victory in their reply, reaching 162 for four in good time as pro Mohammed Zaman Khan struck a brilliant 93 not out and Syed Shah chipped in with a useful 33.

In the Championship, promotion-chasing Crompton romped to victory against struggling Oldham.

Hosts Oldham batted first, but thanks to Carl Taylor’s six for 34 haul, were skittled for just 65.

Crompton eased to a rapid victory in their reply, reaching their meagre target for the loss of just one wicket.
