OLDHAM GOLF LEAGUE
BLACKLEY are on course for an ‘A’ and ‘B’ double following the Oldham Golf League play-off semi-final first legs.
Blackley ‘A’ team produced a superb 7-1 home victory over Dukinfield — one pairing making birdies at the final four holes to force a half — to take forward into this week’s second leg.
And Blackley ‘B’ claimed an impressive 5-3 win at Oldham and look assured of a final spot barring a second-leg disaster back at Hollinwood Avenue.
The other two semi-finals are very much in the balance.
Werneth ‘A’ lost 5-3 at Ashton and will need three winners in the home leg tomorrow.
And Stamford ‘B’ take a similar 5-3 lead to North Manchester.
The play-off finals are played on a neutral venue.
THE league has moved its end of season tournament to avoid a clash with the final day of the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.
The Brian Atack trophy and presentation event was due to take place at Brookdale on Sunday, September 28, but will now be hosted by Denton a week later, on Sunday, October 5.
Entry forms will go out to clubs this week.
Brookdale will now host the 2015 tournament.
DENTON ‘B’ beat Castle Hawk ‘B’ 7-1 in the last league fixture of the season.
