SADDLEWORTH LEAGUE PREVIEW

GLODWICK and Saddleworth face a demanding test of their title credentials tomorrow.

First and second respectively in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League, they appear to be in a straight duel for the Hollingworth Challenge Trophy.

Danny Anchor’s Moorside team may have something to say about that, however.

Perched in third place, they welcome Saddleworth, conquerors of Glodwick last weekend, to Turf Pit Lane.

Victory tomorrow would keep alive Moorside’s hopes of making a late dash for honours.

As for the pacesetters, they won’t have it all their own way at Stayley, who have won four matches on the spin to consolidate fifth spot in the table.

Meanwhile, Heyside host Wythenshawe, for whom opening bowler Leigh Sproston is in contention for a recall after serving a two-game ban imposed by his own club.

He was found to have shown dissent towards an umpire’s decision in a game against Saddleworth at the end of last month.

Team-mate, wicketkeeper Richard Robinson was banned by Wythenshawe for remainder of the season for foul and abusive language towards an opponent and commenting on an umpire’s decision in the same fixture, while club professional Tyler Lortan was warned as to his future conduct.

“I hope this action is taken on board by the players as we are looking at cricket’s interest and not just the league’s,” said Wythenshawe chairman Mike Dean.
