Mossley aim to cash in on team spirit

Non-League:

THERE is no fear in the Mossley camp despite the visit of Evo-Stik League Division One North big-spenders Salford City tomorrow.

City were taken over by Manchester United’s famed ‘Class of ‘92’ during the summer, meaning manager Phil Power has been able to spend on former Football League stars such as Danny Webber and Gareth Seddon – who has already scored four goals in two victories from two matches this term.

The Lilywhites will be underdogs for the Seel Park clash, but joint manager Peter Band understands why and isn’t worried.

He said: “Salford have been spending silly money since the takeover. We scour Sunday Leagues, the Mid-Cheshire League and the Manchester League for our players, but that’s the way it has to be.

“It’s still going to be 11 versus 11 tomorrow. Our lads are confident and I believe we’ve got enough in the tank to get a positive result.

Band and joint-boss Lloyd Morrison face an early-season injury pile-up. John Bennett has pulled his hamstring, while Michael Fish, Andy Brown and Josh Granite are doubtful.

CHADDERTON will hope to continue their encouraging start to the North-West Counties League First Division season when they host Atherton LR.

Chaddy were in sixth place following last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Widnes, but midweek inactivity means they have dropped to ninth.

OLDHAM BORO have had a nightmare week and will be desperate to pick up something from their trip to Northwich Flixton Villa.

Tony Mills’ side have shipped 10 goals in their last two matches, having lost 5-0 at home against Irlam and 5-1 at Rochdale Town.
