CROMPTON suffered a huge blow to their Lake Garage CLL Championship promotion hopes in losing a crucial fixture at leaders Monton and Weaste yesterday.

Simon Wright’s men bowled out their hosts for 146, and in reply Crompton surprisingly collapsed to 103 all out as Danny Collins helped himself to five for 37 and Terence Hall collected four for 22.

Oldham’s Championship misery continued with a heavy defeat at Radcliffe, who batted first and made 219. Hafeez Afridi hit 80 and pro Nadeem Ashraf 60, while Oldham paid man Mohammed Bashir took four for 44.

Struggling Oldham made only 83 in reply, Connor Gateley ripping through them with seven for 55.

Werneth completed an amazing weekend in the Premier Division with a superb home victory over title-chasing Walsden.

Having overturned leaders Norden on Saturday, they saw off second-placed Walsden in great style, scoring 264 for one thanks to an unbeaten 120 from professional Mohammed Zaman Khan, 82 not out by skipper Matthew Taylor and 43 from overseas amateur Levi Thompson-Matthews.

Walsden threatened to make a game of it, but despite 72 from Jake Hooson and 40 from James Rawlinson, they were bowled out for 242, spinner Rash Khan taking six for 64.

Royton made it three wins in a row at the expense of Littleborough at Hare Hill. Despite 65 from pro Clinton Perren, the hosts were restricted to 163 for seven. Royton reached their target for the loss of seven wickets, Alan Durose top scoring with 58.
