WERNETH kept their Lake Garage CLL Premier Division survival hopes alive - and caused a huge shock in the process - by beating leaders Norden on their own Woodhouse Lane ground.

Taking first guard, the hosts were bowled out for 149, Simon Harman hitting 37 and Werneth professional Mohammed Zaman Khan taking five for 29.

Werneth reached their target for the loss of seven wickets thanks to 41 from overseas amateur Levi Thompson-Matthews, 33 by skipper Matt Taylor and 31 from Michael Ashworth.

Royton still harbour hopes of a top-five finish and a place in next season’s LCB Cup following their 141-runs home victory over Clifton.

The Paddock side batted first and made an imposing 236 for nine, Tony Walsh hitting 88, Alan Durose 54 and professional Pieter Malan 46.

Liam Dorsey was the pick of the Clifton bowlers with five for 39.

Malan then took three for 27 and Adam Good three for 33 as Clifton were skittled for 95.

Crompton continued an amazing winning streak in the Championship with a commanding home victory over Middleton. The visitors were bowled out for 84 as Mel Austin (three for 20) and Marlon Black (three for 23) set about their batsmen.

The meagre target proved no problem for Crompton, who raced over the winning line for the loss of four wickets.

Oldham were blitzed for only 29 by leaders Monton and Weaste, for whom Furqan Shafiq took five for five. Monton knocked off the runs without losing a wicket.
