Mills is a real Gem

OLDHAM Gems made the short trip to Ashton to play for the Les Eyre Rose Bowl and the winner with 35 points was Steve Mills. Next came Trevor Cash (29) and Brian Best (28).

FORMER Brookdale player Joe Brice was joint seventh in the Childwall Trophy, the Srixon Northern Order of Merit’s latest event. The Manchester man had rounds of 76 and 69 for a total of 145, six shots behind winner Timothy Ford from Woolton.


SADDLEWORTH member Lees Whitehead became the first winner of the Housing Units green jacket at the shopping emporium’s annual charity golf day.

Lees won with 39 points in the shotgun-start event. Tony Doidge (38) pipped Lees’ brother, Howard, on a card play-off for second. The day raised £5,000 for this year’s chosen charity, Christies.



PAM Tomlinson was pleased to win Mr President’s Prize at Saddleworth.

For not only was it Pam’s first major success, but the president in question is none other than her brother, Allan Entwistle.

The competition was played over two rounds and Pam, the lady vice-captain, had nett rounds of 75 and 71 to top the standings on 146.

Pam Taylor was runner-up after returns of 74 and 73 for 147 left her one shot adrift of the top spot.

First-day prize went to Sybil Bate (102-30-72), while second-day honours were collected by Debra Cockburn with 94-21-73.
