Taylor’s tonic

ANGLING: ROYTON ace Martin Taylor (Matrix Halifax) continued his terrific recent form in Wigan AA matches on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

Last weekend he prevailed in his second 130 peg national practice open. Taylor was struggling with just 1lb in his net into the last hour. Then he caught a bream, then several more and some skimmers to finish the match with 13lb 12oz, netting him £350.

Second-placed Paul Smith (Tri-Cast Rochdale) caught two skimmers early on in the match, but it was a switch to hemp fished right across that caught him the majority of his 10lb 8oz 11drams net.

MY match last weekend was the Wigan AA open on the Leeds and Liverpool canal, and although I had a fair few bites I ended with 3lb, which in the upcoming Division Two national on there will give you mega points.

This was an open though, so I was just fishing for my section which was worth £25 as the area was not a noted one for catching any weight of fish. My weight was made up of a small skimmer weighing about 8oz and 80 small roach.

THE Medlock Bridge AC match on the Park Lake saw in-form peg eight produce yet again, this time with Geoff Dawson catching 23lb of skimmers, tench, roach, chub and perch that fell to long pole, chopped worm and caster. Tony Simcock (Tight Lines, Shaw) was second with maggot and worm fished on the long pole catching him 13lb 14oz of silvers.

ROD Illing took first place in the Twingates AC match on the club water, with his 16lb 8oz net including mostly silvers taken on chopped worm and caster fished on the pole. Geoff Carr was second with another mixed bag taken on the pole and weighing 10lb 4oz.

MONDAY’S Medlock Bridge AC match on the Park Lake was a closely-fought affair won by Mick Malloy with 15lb 3oz of silvers.

Again it was worm and caster tactics fished on peg eight that did the damage.

Tom Brownbill (Maver NW) was second off peg 20, where he fished long with chopped worm and caster for 13lb 9oz of silvers.
