St Anne’s out to regain momentum

RUGBY: OLDHAM St Anne’s are back from a two-week break and are aiming to put right what went wrong on the last outing for Mick Fogerty’s men.

The Higginshaw Road side — who fell to a shock 22-18 loss at bottom club Stanningley before the Challenge Cup final break— face visitors Pilkington Recs tomorrow.

It will be a tough game - not least because Recs turned over Askam 80-10 last time out.

But St Anne’s were on a three-match winning streak before their setback, so will hope to produce a result that helps to bridge the gap with the division’s top five.

Near the foot of the same division two, matters are starting to appear a little desperate for Waterhead.

Coach Chris Hough has never been one to give in though, and in visiting Askam will hope to kick-start a charge away from the relegation zone.

As with all of the local sides in the National Conference League, maintaining a settled squad has been a problem for the Peach Road outfit. Since suffering a 122-7 defeat at Kells in late June, Hough’s depleted side has picked up one point from a potential 12.

In Division One, Saddleworth Rangers travel to Shaw Cross for what promises to be a tough test. Shane Tupaea’s side aims to remain unbeaten for the last three matches. They will be without Anthony Morrison, who has a broken arm.
