Non-league football: MOSSLEY joint-boss Peter Band has declared himself satisfied with his team’s start to the 2014-15 season.

Lilywhites got off the mark at the fourth attempt with a 2-1 victory at Padiham on Monday, but there had been plenty of encouraging signs in the earlier games.

Band said: “We’ve played well in all four games so far. It’s been the same old story really, being punished for defensive mistakes.

“We were rewarded on Monday of course, but we should have got something from the Salford City game last weekend (Mossley lost 3-1).”

Attention turns away from the Evo-Stik League tomorrow and towards an FA Cup preliminary round tie at divisional rivals Burscough. Band and fellow joint-boss Lloyd Morrison still have a lengthy injury list to contend with, but confidence is high following the Padiham victory.

Band said: “The FA Cup is very important to us. A decent run can bring in some much-needed funds.”

Mossley have signed talented young midfielder Olly Devaney. He was at Nantwich Town last season, before spending the summer with FC United.

IT’S fifth versus sixth in the North-West Counties League First Division’s game of the day tomorrow as CHADDERTON host AFC Darwen. Chaddy have lost only once in their opening five games and last season’s hot-shot Matty Russell has already scored three.

OLDHAM BORO arrested a mini-slump last weekend with a point from a goalless draw at Northwich Flixton Villa. Tomorrow they host new team Barnton at Seel Park.
