Wickets landmark for Aslam

CRICKET: SPINNER Imran Aslam hit the 100 wicket mark for the season in Saddleworth’s 85-run defeat of Shaw at Well-i-Hole on Saturday.

The Pakistani professional, who also achieved the ton milestone for Uppermill in 2011, took five for 30 after the visitors were set a revised target of 169 in 22 overs but ultimately fell short. Steve Howard weighed in with four for 25.

Aslam was also in the runs. He made 76 from 36 balls as second-placed Saddleworth declared on 213 for six in a match reduced to 32 overs per side.

Leaders Glodwick thumped South West Manchester by 10 wickets at Warren Lane.

This was a 38-over game — the late start was also because of the wet weather — and the Saddleworth and Distirct Cricket League high-fliers were soon in the ascendancy.

South West Manchester were skittled for just 64, with Imran Asghar claiming six for 20.

Another rain interruption left Glodwick requiring 49 in 26 overs, which they achieved in a canter thanks to paid man Rehan Rafiq and Mark Whitehead

Moorside’s outside hopes of the title were finally extinguished by Whalley Range after they were restricted to 113 for eight in a 27-over match at Kingsbrook Road. The home team reached their goal for the loss of six wickets.

Meanwhile, Paul Burrell compiled a fine 69 as Wythenshawe, set a revised target of 197 in 39 overs, beat Droylsden by three wickets at Oakfield.

Skipper Gareth Dent earlier struck 60 in the hosts' total of 217 for eight.

The other four fixtures were abandoned due to rain.
