ANGLING: STEVE Hamer topped an impressive Socials AC match on Tyle lodge.

Using maggot and caster on the pole, he caught a superb net of skimmers, ide, roach and chub which weighed in at 23lb 3oz. Runner-up Dean Pickering had a 21lb 10oz net of carp on pole and meat.

RICHARD Rawthorne was first in the Old Hough Farm open on Boulders lake, catching almost 200 ide for a cracking 70lb 13oz net. Roger Peet was second with 47lb 13oz.

Dave Holland (Tri-Cast Highfield) collected his section in the Old Hough Farm open match two days later with 53lb 6oz of paste-tempted carp and barbel.

A BUMPER field of 142 anglers took part in the national open practice on the Burscough lengths of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, and again end pegs made the frame.

My team, Tri-Cast Rochdale, claimed eight section wins on the day, showing why they are one of the favourites for tomorrow’s Division Two national title.

I WAS runner-up in my section in a match on the Parbold length of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

I was drawn in the worst of the sections and only three weighed in out of 10 as most had packed-up early. I stuck it out and was second with 2lb 7oz of small roach and ruffe.

TODMORDEN AS are staging a trophy match on Sunday at Croft Fishery, while the club’s next away match is on Sunday week at Heronbrook fishery.
