Dramatic conclusion to Premier campaign

BOWLS: TONGE completed their Manchester Premier League campaign with a 9-6 (193-163) home victory over King and Queen, Warrington.
In cementing their third place, Tonge had wins from Jimmy Derby (21-9), Matt Gillies (21-7), Darren Griffiths (21-17), Thomas Dobson (21-17), Graham Hickey (21-17) and Steve Squire 21-12.
Elsewhere, Lloyd Hotel, Chorlton clinched the title in dramatic fashion. They needed four winners at second-placed Sale to prevail and it was last-man Michael McDonnell who held his nerve to deliver the required fourth victory.
Top-four placings: Lloyd Hotel 168, Sale 164.5, Tonge 156, St Joseph’s 150.
DOBCROSS won the Failsworth League’s Castle Cup, defeating Blue Club by 30 chalks in the final at North Chadderton.
THE Inbev Winter Bowls League season at Chadderton Cot gets under way in earnest this weekend. The fixtures are: Tomorrow: Lanctan v Nimble Nook at 9am; Failsworth v Hopwood at 11am.
Sunday: Dogwood v Springhead at 9.45am; Waterloo and Taunton v Springhead at noon; Dalemoor v Nimble Nook at 2.15pm.
CHADDERTON’S John Atkinson was beaten 21-14 by Rochdale’s Andrew Lowe in the second round of the Your Choice men’s singles at Norden BC, heats for which continue on Sunday (6pm).
