CRICKET: IT was very much a case of sweet and sour for Werneth on Saturday night.

Matt Taylor’s men registered a maximum points win at Royton - but no sooner had celebrations begun than news came from Rochdale their relegation rivals had beaten champions Norden.

That meant Werneth were relegated from the Lake Garage CLL Premier Division, rendering yesterday’s clash between the two basement clubs meaningless.

Royton were bowled out for 133 at the Paddock, and in reply Werneth reached 137 for five.

Monton and Weaste and Unsworth both won their matches in the Championship to be promoted as champions and runners-up.

But Crompton, who missed out after looking live contenders for much of the season, at least had the consolation of a thumping 220-runs victory over neighbours Oldham.

NORDEN (187-9) lost to Ormskirk (188-5) in the final of the LCB Cup at St Annes CC yesterday.
