TABLE TENNIS: OLDHAM’S Amir Hussain has been selected in the development group of Table Tennis England’s 28-strong England youth squad.

The 10 year old, who plays for Glodwick in the Oldham and District League, is in the 15-player development squad announced after player assessments at the National Sports Centre in Lilleshall.

The squad members will attend regular training camps and will work more closely with England coaches at their clubs.

GLODWICK, seeking a ninth title on the spin, made a shaky start to the 2014-15 Oldham and District Table Tennis League Division One season.

They suffered a 6-4 defeat at the hands of Saddleworth ‘B’, for whom Nathan Buckley and Paul King were unbeaten.

Wayne Renton, returning after injury, Jeff Craighill and Khamal Hussain picked up a singles for Glodwick.

Newly-promoted Rosehill found it tough going on their return to the top flight, losing 9-1 at Hollinwood ‘A’. They claimed the doubles to avoid the whitewash.

The other promoted team, Honeywell ‘B’, although reconstituted for their debut match in this division, shared a 5-5 draw with their ‘C’ side.
