LACROSSE:

OLDHAM Owls were beaten 12-4 by Cheadle in a lacrosse match littered with indiscipline.

The Owls had put in plenty of practice and this showed in the opening quarter as they played with confidence. But it was Cheadle who scored three goals to take command.

Joe Finch and Charlie Lawless, of the Owls, received two and one-minute penalties respectively following a heated exchange with the opposition. Tempers flared again in the second quarter as a second verbal and physical confrontation saw Lawless pick up a two-minute penalty, but not before Jack Boomer’s powerful shot had found the Cheadle net.

Tim Stanton used his speed to get on the Owls scoresheet and Will Beaumont kept his cool to add his side’s third goal. Cheadle, though, took their goals tally to seven at half-way.

The Owls, with coach Adam King’s team-talk reverberating in their ears, showed a lot more control in the third quarter. Cheadle netted two more, but Beaumont pulled one back after a surging run.

With tiredness setting in, man-of-the-match Anthony Randall took a two-minute penalty in the last quarter after allowing himself to get wound up by the opposition.

Oldham were unable to prevent Cheadle from taking their goals tally up to 12, but the performance still offered hope for the future.
