‘D’ team refuse to throw in the towel

TABLE TENNIS:  

HOLLINWOOD ‘D’ produced a brilliant recovery to claim an unlikely victory in Division Three of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League.

They trailed Honeywell ‘E’ 4-0, but hit back to triumph 6-4. George Marrow and John Foster achieved two wins apiece for Hollinwood.

Unison 'B' continued their solid start to the campaign with an 8-2 win against Coldhurst ‘C’.

Brian Huskinson, with three victories to his name, had good support from Dave Wild and John Maher, who notched doubles.

Gilders went down 8-2 to a strong Werneth 'B' team, with Stuart Meredith continuing his fine comeback from injury by staying undefeated.

The Division One clash between Honeywell ‘B’ and Glodwick ‘B’ proved a family affair.

Glodwick recorded an 8-2 victory, with Khamal Hussain and Majid Tabasum grabbing hat-tricks. Amir Hussain, son of Khamal, added a single. Paul Carter, for Honeywell, replied.

Hollinwood 'A' managed a 6-4 success against Honeywell 'C', thanks to a maximum from Gabriel Wilding. Ken Heyes responded with a double for Honeywell.

The Division Two clash between the two cricket clubs — Uppermill ‘A’ and Saddleworth ‘C’ — saw the former emerge victorious courtesy of a 7-3 scoreline.

Gary Crossley, Dennis Taylor and Mark Simpson notched doubles for the ’Mill, while Duncan Hadfield was unbeaten for Saddleworth.

Stanley Square were outgunned 7-3 by Hollinwood 'B', for whom George Jones notched a treble. Glen Chadwick replied with a double.
