Boro aiming to kick on

FOOTBALL:

OLDHAM Boro chairman Mark Kilgannon is hoping Tuesday’s epic Manchester Premier Cup win against big-spending Salford City will give his team a boost.

Boro have struggled all season in the North-West Counties League First Division and currently prop up the table after winning one of 11 games.

But they rocked the form book in midweek by coming from behind to beat Evo-Stik League Salford 2-1 at Seel Park, thanks to strikes from Andy Smith and Matt Knowles.

Boro travel to Wigan Robin Park in the league tomorrow with Mike Lester in joint charge alongside Tony Mills. Coach Lester has been promoted, with Andy Smith now taking on the role of assistant manager.

IT’S derby day at Seel Park as Mossley host rejuvenated Tameside rivals Droylsden in what promises to be a tasty Evo-Stik League Division One North clash.

Following a dismal relegation from Conference North last season, Dave Pace’s Droylsden have regrouped and an encouraging start to the campaign means they currently sit in fourth place in the table.

Mossley are only five points behind in ninth, however, so joint-manager Peter Band is hoping to close the gap with a victory in front of what promises to be a bumper crowd.

The Lilywhites have drafted in Yorkshire-based former Radcliffe Borough and Wakefield right-back Caldon Henson.

CHADDERTON, whose run of five straight North-West Counties League First Division defeats has seen them slide to 15th place in the table, entertain Northwich Flixton Villa tomorrow.

All the above games kick-off at 3pm.
