FOOTBALL:

THREE first-half goals set Mossley on their way to a superb 4-2 victory over close rivals Droylsden at Seel Park in Evo-Stik League Division One North.

Despite suffering an early injury when defender Josh Granite was forced off the field, the Lilywhites went ahead in the 13th minute.

Andy Keogh released Mike Fish, who stepped inside a defender before firing home beyond former Mossley ’keeper Russ Saunders.

It was 2-0 five minutes later. After being awarded a free-kick 30 yards out, Oliver Devenney curled a brilliant effort into the top corner.

Mossley went close twice more, before Fish added a third from the penalty spot in the 26th minute. Fish earned the spot-kick when he was felled by Alex Frost.

Droylsden boss Dave Pace rang the changes just after half-time – he brought on all three of his substitutes – and the move paid off as Ben Deegan headed home from close range.

Mossley then had a couple of scares, before sub Matty Purcell scored in the 69th minute to re-establish the home side’s three-goal advantage.

The Bloods were on the mark again later, Deegan grabbing his second of the game, but this was the Lilywhites' day. Mossley are eighth in the table, two points behind Droylsden in fourth place.

BASEMENT boys Oldham Boro were unable to build on their terrific midweek victory over Salford City as they were beaten 3-1 at Wigan Robin Park in Division One of the North-West Counties League.

Boro conceded two goals in the opening half-a-dozen minutes – Craig Marley and Jake Patton were on target for the hosts – before an own-goal halved the deficit just after the hour mark.

Boro’s hopes of claiming a point were dashed in the 90th minute when Patton bagged his second of the game.

Also in Division One, CHADDERTON displayed excellent powers of recovery to draw 2-2 against Northwich Flixton Villa at Broadway.Behind to Yousef Yousef’s goal in the 15th minute, Sean Sherwood restored parity 12 minutes later.

Chadderton soon found themselves behind again when Yousef doubled his tally for the afternoon.

But Niall Sultan’s goal five minutes after the restart clinched a point for fourth-bottom Chadderton.
