TABLE TENNIS:

POLLARDS ‘A’ are going great guns in Division Four of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League.

They made it three wins from as many outings with an 8-2 defeat of an experienced Grotton ‘B’ line-up.

Dave Winterbottom and Pete Davis were unbeaten for Pollards, while Steve Smith and Neil Tomlinson replied with singles.

Owls ‘A’ are the only other team in the division to escape defeat so far. They overcame Honeywell ‘F’ 7-3 in their most recent clash.

In Division Two, relegated Hyde YM ‘A’ have posted three 8-2 results — unfortunately two of them have been losses, against Uppermill ‘A’ and Coldhurst ‘A’. The only victory has come against Stanley Square.

Two of the stalwarts of this section met, and it was Grotton ‘A’ who edged to a 6-4 success against Honeywell ‘D’.

Ryan Conway, with a hat-trick, led the way, Steve Oliver bagged a brace and Dave Morris a single.

Brian Higgins (two) and Pete Buckley replied for Honeywell.

Kenny Hayes stepped down from Division One to Division Three to claim a treble for Honeywell ‘E’ against Deaf ‘B’.

However, his big effort was in vain as his side were beaten 6-4. Dave Varney, Matthew Gartside and Gordon Jennings did the damage.
