BOXING:

JON Kays steps back into the ring on Saturday determined to get into British title contention again sooner rather than later.

It’s been five months since Ashton-based Oldham favourite Kays (31) lost his only other British super-featherweigh title tilt to Gary Sykes. The 10th-round stoppage was a controversial one as Kays felt he was okay to continue.

Darren McCarrick-trained Kays is now back in business and ready to take on Ibrar Riaz over six or eight rounds at the Victoria Warehouse in Trafford Park on Saturday.

Kays said: “I’m solely focused on getting back into the British title mix. Because of that I’ve prepared like I would for a world title.

“Training has been brilliant these last few months, though I will have to have my wits about me against Ibrar. He’s got a chance to write his name in lights, too.”

Kays has dropped to 13th in the British super-featherweight rankings, but two or three quick victories could soon see the former amateur star back in contention for a potential rematch with Sykes.

DELPH welterweight hopeful Andy Kremner will return to ring action at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Trafford Park on November 28.

Kremner (22) will be bidding to extend his unbeaten professional run to three from three against an as-yet unnamed opponent. Kremner stopped Matt Seawright in the second round in his last fight, also at Bowlers, in June.
