FOOTBALL: HEYSIDE are now unbeaten in five games after they won their latest Huddersfield League Division Two fixture, 2-0 at Kirkheaton Rovers.

It wasn’t until the last 15 minutes that superior fitness told and the visitors bagged their all-important goals.

Jordan Aird’s sublime 75th-minute strike was his sixth in four games since joining the club.

Aird then turned provider, beating three Kirkheaton defenders before squaring to sub Mark Hopwood, who made no mistake.

Reece Hursthouse was the man of the match for Heyside, who face a real test tomorrow in the second round of the Manchester FA Amateur Cup against Lancashire Amateur League top-flight side, Failsworth Dynamos.

MANCHESTER Challenge Trophy action saw Lancashire and Cheshire League outfit AFC Oldham lose by the odd goal in five to Hyde United’s under-21s.

In Division Three, Trafford United secured a 4-3 win over Oldham Victoria.

Division ‘E’ action saw in-form AFC Oldham fifths sink Chorltonians sixths 5-1 thanks to strikes from Curtis Norris (two), Daz Heywood, Jordan Croft and Michael Brooks.

SPRINGHEAD’S poor run continued as they lost 5-1 at Walshaw in the FBT Manchester League Premier Division.

’Head started the game the brighter of the two sides, but not for the first time this season, defensive frailties allowed Walshaw to secure a 2-0 lead after only 15 minutes.

The visitors gave themselves a lifeline 10 minutes before the break when Callum Grant was fouled in the box and Paul Stevenson scored from the spot.

But by the hour mark, more slack marking allowed Walshaw to gain a 4-1 lead.

To rub salt into the wounds, the home side scored from a free-kick in the last minute to make it 5-1.

Springhead must improve quickly if they are to gain anything from tomorrow’s local derby at Royton Town. Town had a terrific result as they thumped visitors Atherton Town 5-0.

In Division One, Jordan Stepien registered for Uppermill in a 2-1 home defeat by Old Alts.

It was derby day in the Manchester Challenge Trophy as Avro gained a 4-1 verdict against Hollinwood.

Chadderton’s second string lost 4-1 at Heywood St James.

THERE were goals galore for local sides in the latest round of Lancashire Amateur League fixtures.

In the Premier Division, Failsworth Dynamos continued their fine recent form with a 6-0 win against North Walkden.

Oldham Hulmeians prevailed in a Division One thriller, edging out visitors Old Boltonians Reserves 7-6.

Chaddertonians won 5-2 at Ainsworth.
