Santos desperate for new faces

SANTOS FC desperately wants to move forward - but must first arrest a worrying run of form.

The club has lost its opening six matches in Division One of the Lancashire and Cheshire League.

Agecroft-based Moorside Rangers were the latest team to find easy pickings against Santos at Oldham Academy North.

When Jason Casey gave Santos the lead after 20 minutes with a fierce 25-yard drive that went in via the underside of the crossbar, it seemed that a first win of the campaign might be on its way.

But then the side’s old frailties began to surface and Santos were 3-1 down at half-time.

Matters weren’t helped when Keith Kurpass received a second yellow card midway through the second period, and Moorside were merciless in taking advantage of their numerical superiority.

Santos secretary Ian Ward said: “Our immediate aim is to consolidate our position in the first division.

“We finished bottom last season but weren’t relegated due to a restructuring of the league.

“Our overall aim is to develop as a club and we aspire to be in the Premier Division. We have around 40 players but we struggle at times to field two teams.”
