Royton hit back to net derby spoils

FOOTBALL: ROYTON Town secured the FBT Manchester League Premier Division derby honours as they beat Springhead 3-1.
The visitors went in front two minutes after the restart when Leighton Stephenson finished well.
This kicked Royton into action and they equalised on the hour mark when left-back David Manning struck a great shot into the corner past Osman Bushara.
That strike was bettered six minutes later when Craig Schuman unleashed an unstoppable strike from 30 yards which flew into the net.
The goal knocked the stuffing out of ’Head and they were indebted to Bushara as he kept them in the game with two fine saves.
With 10 minutes left the game was sealed as Mike Moss was brought down by ’Head skipper Joe Cunningham – who was dismissed – and Moss scored from the penalty spot.
Elsewhere in the top flight, Avro shared six goals with Elton Vale.
In Division One, Uppermill secured a terrific 6-2 victory at Leigh Athletic. Gerard Forde (two), Jordan Stepian, Jake Jacobs, Mark Jackson and Merv Davies scored.
