Non-league football:

IN-FORM Mossley came agonisingly close to inflicting a first Evo-Stik League Division One North defeat of the season on big-spending Salford City.

In the end the Lilywhites, now unbeaten in five games, had to settle for a 2-2 draw at the hosts’ Moor Lane fortress.

Lee Neville opened the scoring for Salford in the 28th minute, before two quickfire Mossley goals either side of the hour mark turned the game on its head.

Skipper Andy Keogh and sub Sam Robinson fired the visitors in front only for Hibbs to earn Phil Power’s still-unbeaten side a share of the spoils in the 78th minute.

The point kept Mossley in eighth place.

The Lilywhites are next in action in the FA Trophy on Saturday when they make the relatively short journey to New Mills. The scheduled home fixture against Bamber Bridge tomorrow has been postponed because of Brig’s involvement in an FA Trophy replay.

OLDHAM BORO were knocked out of the North-West Counties League Men United Cup at the second round stage.

They were beaten 2-0 at home by Premier Division outfit Bootle. The hosts gave a good account of themselves, but lost out to strikes from Kurt Sherlock and Mark Kilroy.

There was much better news for CHADDERTON in the First Division. They cruised to a 3-0 home victory against Eccleshall, thanks to goals from Matty Russell, Adam Turner and Niall Sultan.

Chadderton return to action on Saturday with an FA Carlsberg Vase trip to Dronfield Town.

Boro now have a two-week break
