Challenge Cup stunner as Oddies upset Westwood

FOOTBALL: ODDIES 14 caused a big upset in the Oldham Sunday League’s Challenge Cup, the second division side beating top-flight Westwood FC 4-2.

Fitton Hill had no trouble either. With Callum Franklin bagging a double hat-trick and Aaron Murdoch four, the Jack Abbott Premier Division side roared to a 10-1 success over Chaddy Cott.

In the league, the leaders remain Limeside King George, who beat Coppice United 3-2, while second-placed Heyside thumped Crown 6-2.

Three goals from Tom Evans helped high-flying Limeside Athletic to a 4-0 victory at Royton Athletic in David Giblin Division One.

Springhead Libs climbed off the bottom of the table after they won 2-1 at home to Cartshaft.

Legends of Lees are going great guns in Division Two, maintainng their 100 per cent record with a 5-3 victory over nearest challengers Blue Club.


AFC OLDHAM secured a terrific point in the Lancashire and Cheshire League Premier Division as they held leaders and reigning champions Whalley Range to a 1-1 draw.


The result saw Range slip to second place, with Rochdalians taking over top spot courtesy of a 2-0 success against Mellor.

In Division One, Santos FC had an afternoon to forget as they succumbed 13-1 to high-flying Eagle.
