Meredith treble lifts Werneth in top clash

TABLE TENNIS:
WERNETH ‘B’ defeated Unison ‘B’ 8-2 in a clash of the top two teams in the Oldham Table Tennis League’s Third Division.
Stuart Meredith starred with three wins, while there were doubles from David Holme and Suresh Patel. Brian Huskinson contributed the two points for Unison.
Unison ‘C’ remain in third place after a hard-fought 6-4 victory at Our Lady's, thanks mainly to man-of-the- match Peter Hill.
Top-of-the-table action in the Fifth Division saw leaders Hollinwood ‘E’ win 7-3 at Unison ‘E’.
Bernard Milnes picked up his first maximum of the season while also inflicting the first defeat on Unison's Josh Hudson.
Pollards ‘C’ kept up the pressure on the top two with a 10-0 victory over bottom side Coldhurst ‘E’.
Bottom team Hollinwood ‘C’ gained their first victory of the season in the Second Division with a comprehensive 9-1 win at Saddleworth ‘C’. David Jefferson, George Marrow and Paul Hutchinson were all unbeaten.
At the other end of the table, Uppermill ‘A’ remain top after a 6-4 victory over Hyde YMCA ‘B’ for whom Steve Hilton's three wins were to no avail.
In the First Division, the battle at the top continues to rage on with both Glodwick sides having comfortable victories. Leaders Glodwick ‘B’ defeated Honeywell ‘C’ 9-1, while the ‘A’ team won 8-2 against Honeywell ‘B’.
