Angling: ANDREW Mitchell was the narrow winner of a Diggle AS Individual Winter League match on Tanners Dam.

The Gilders rod had an 11lb 6oz net made up of two carp and some skimmers on the pole and maggot.

However, Mitchell’s weight would have been much greater, but for losing a double-figure carp that broke the top sections of his pole.

Second-on-the-day Dave Machin had two carp and some skimmers on maggot in conjunction with the waggler for 11lb 4oz.

Chris Butterworth, in third spot, weighed in an 11lb net. He went two places better in the latest Diggle AS Individual Winter League match on Tanners Dam, catching 23ibs of carp and skimmers.

Next was Dave Jones, who had a solitary carp and skimmer net of 18lb 3oz.

The latest league standings see Machin leading with 10 points, followed by Mick Henshaw (21pts), Mitchell (22pts), Graham Mitchell (23pts) and Butterworth (24pts).

STRINESDALE Reservoir was in good form for the latest Medlock Bridge AC open match.

Steve Hall dominated the event, with eight chub taken on maggot feeder and maggot on the hook for a match-winning 16lb. Runner-up Billy Brierley switched between pinkie and maggot on the hook to catch a 3lb carp, some roach and chub for a 13lb 3oz net.

A FORMER team-mate of mine at Matrix Halifax, Simon Wain, clinched Wednesday’s Mirfield Canal open event. Situated by the road bridge, he registered 8lb 13oz of roach and perch. Keith Marshall (Tri-Cast Calder) was second-best with 5lb 8oz of roach.

DARREN Bladen claimed victory in the Saturday open match on the Scrapyard length of the Ashton Canal.

He opted for the long pole and bread punch combination for 5lb 10oz of roach.

Organiser Tony Horton used the bread punch approach for roach, which tipped the scales at 3lb 15oz.

I TOOK part in the final round of the Wigan Winter League — and couldn’t complain as I landed 40 roach for a fifth-in-section 2lb 2oz. Daz Shaw, of Maver NW, took the plaudits with 15lb 1oz of bream to 3lb and some skimmers on bread punch. Gary Marchant was next with a 8lb 6oz bag of skimmers and bream.

Wigan (38 points) were the top team on the day, over Maver NW (42pts), and Tri-Cast Rochdale (45pts).

Saints claimed the team prize with 15 points

TWINGATES AC are running members-only matches throughout the winter.
