FOOTBALL: AFC OLDHAM were sunk 4-0 at Mellor in the Lancashire and Cheshire League Premier Division.

Strikes from Jack Beswick and Bruce Clarke had Mellor 2-0 to the good at the break, and after Oldham were reduced to 10 men, Dom Randle and Dave Whelan added two more to put the hosts in the comfort zone.

Newton Heath were emphatic 4-0 victors against Santos in Division One.

To cap a miserable day for local sides, Oldham Victoria were crushed 5-0 at home by Staly Lions in Division Three.

The only bright spot was the 5-1 victory for AFC Oldham’s fifth team against Govan Athletic thirds in Division ‘E’.

FAILSWORTH Dynamos moved up to third place in the Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division table thanks to a 3-1 win against Old Blackburnians.

Oldham Hulmeians’ ‘A’ team went goal crazy in Division Five, thumping Hesketh Casuals 8-0.

RYAN Fagan was Springhead’s derby-day hero in the FBT Manchester League Premier Division.

The forward scored the only goal of the game as the hosts overcame Royton 1-0 on a heavy Ashfield Crescent pitch.

Fagan struck in the second half following a slick move which belied the underfoot conditions.

Springhead went close on several other occasions, but one goal was enough to move them within touching distance of Town.

Avro notched a terrific 4-1 home win against Rochdale Sacred Heart.

In Division One, Uppermill secured a 2-1 success at Heywood St James’ thanks to strikes from Andrew Pheby and Jordan Stepien.
