FRANK Williams was kept busy in the Oldham Owls goal as his side were beaten 13-1 by Mellor.

The pitch thawed in time for the game to go ahead, and it was Mellor who took the lead in the ice-cold conditions.

Samedi Stephenson-Kirkbride and Tim Stanton then showed excellent speed and forwarding-thinking to keep their opponents out of the Owls’ half for long enough to allow Oliver Cooper to equalise.

But that was as good as it got for the local outfit, for whom young Josh Clark displayed a great deal of promise.

Mellor found the route goal all too easy as illness robbed the Owls of their first-choice defenders.

Jack Boomer, the four-goal hero from the week before, made several barnstorming raids, but was unable to add to the Owls’ tally.

Joseph Jordon also broke free on occasions, while ’keeper Williams raced towards the Mellor goal only to be denied.
