Heyside’s impressive statement of intent

HEYSIDE made a huge statement of intent when they returned home from Huddersfield League Division Two leaders Skelmanthorpe with a thumping 4-1 victory.

In front of a large home crowd, it was the previously unbeaten hosts who took the lead after 23 minutes when a forward slipped the ball past the onrushing Jack Suttie.

Heyside responded on the half-hour mark when a pass down the left from Danny Cashin found top scorer James Leonard, who rounded the goalkeeper to slot home his 20th goal of the season.

Five minutes later the visitors took the lead when forward Jordan Aird crossed into Daniel Dunn, who cheekily back-heeled the ball home from 10 yards.

It was 3-1 in the 60th minute when a corner-kick from Dunn was brilliantly flicked into the net by Leonard.

Heyside were now dominating proceedings and that man Leonard reacted quickly to superbly plant a long-range header home to make it 4-1. It was a third hat-trick of the season for the front man.

Heyside boss Geoff Howard said: “This was our toughest game by far this season, and what a performance from the boys.
