TEN-man Mossley slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against FA Cup heroes Warrington Town in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.

All the goals, and the sending-off, came in a frantic five-minute spell leading up to the interval at a bitterly cold Seel Park.

Prospects initially looked rosy for the Lilywhites when Mike Fish fired them into the lead in the 42nd minute.

However, the lead lasted less than two minutes as Town skipper David Mannix powered home to make it 1-1.

The game was then turned right on its head deep into first-half stoppage-time when Josh Granite pulled down Scott Metcalfe in the hosts’ box, with the Town midfielder dusting himself off before slotting home the resultant penalty kick.

The referee also deemed Granite the last man, so a straight red card followed.

Mossley joint-boss Peter Band said: “The whole complex of the game changed in that crazy couple of minutes before half-time.

“From getting ready to praise the lads for going ahead at a crucial time, we’ve ended up rollicking them during the interval.”

The Lilywhites, who dropped to 10th in the league table, are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Scarborough Athletic.

LDHAM BORO remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the North-West Counties League First Division table following a 3-0 defeat at Holker Old Boys.

Jamie Pattinson, Nathan Reid and Michael Rushton provided the firepower for the Cumbrian hosts.

CHADDERTON’S scheduled match at AFC Darwen was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Boro are next in action at home against Hanley Town on Saturday, the same day as Chaddy host Litherland REMYCA.
