Lilywhites withdraw Bryant appeal

MOSSLEY have decided to rescind a club appeal against striker Mitchell Bryant’s lengthy suspension.

The Football Association banned Bryant from all football until July, 2015, following an altercation between the player and the referee after he had been sent off during an Evo-Stik League Division One North clash against Kendal Town in September.

Lilywhites club secretary Harry Hulmes said: “After seeking advice on the appeal process, we’ve decided between us to withdraw it.

“It could have been very costly to be honest, so Mitchell and the club decided it was a bit too risky in case he lost.

“The club doesn’t condone in any way Mitchell’s reaction to the red card, but as we’ve stated before, when you compare it to some of the other more high-profile punishments dished out for similar offences, a season-ending ban seems way too excessive.

“We have reluctantly decided to take it on the chin now, though.”

Former Reading youth prospect Bryant will be sorely missed during the remainder of the season.

Joint-manager Peter Band said: “It’s been a harsh punishment, but Mitch is doing his best to get on with it.

“We just hope we can keep hold of him until the start of next season.

“He’s still coming training with us, so credit to him for that.”
