RUGBY:

KEITH Brennan has turned to an old colleague and boss as he seeks a special brand of inspiration for his young Waterhead charges.

Brennan (41) has been in touch with Bath Rugby Union coach Mike Ford, under whose control as player-coach he worked at Oldham, and has arranged for his under-15s side to spend a day training at the Aviva Premiership club on Sunday.

The trip will allow budding Waterhead stars from the other code the chance to experience top-class

facilities in the spectacular surroundings of Bath’s Farleigh House training base.

It is also planned that emerging England international fly-half George Ford — son of Mike and a former Waterhead player himself — and the biggest name in either code, Sam Burgess, will be present on the day to offer advice.

“Our lads are at the stage now where scholarships are being thrown around,” said Brennan, back in the coaching game after a three-year spell out after leaving as Saddleworth Rangers’ first-team boss.

“It will be good for them to see just how much hard work and dedication is needed in order to be a

success.”

It is hoped the trip to Bath will encompass a training session alongside the first-team squad and a chance to watch the side in action in the Aviva Premiership.
