Angling: THE evergreen John Edwards dominated the TH open match on the Morrisons length of the Rochdale Canal.

He netted a brilliant 8lb 8oz of roach between one and eight ounces, taken on bread punch at six and nine metres. On the next peg was his travelling partner Brian Meadows and he, too, got among the roach.

But it wasn’t even close as he finished the five-hour event with plenty of smaller samples which together weighed 4lb 12oz.

SHIPLEY Open on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal saw Dave Wells (Tri-Cast Rochdale) land 250 small roach which weighed in at 10lb 12oz and easily beat the rest of the field.

On the end peg, Slaithwaite angler John Harman had some cracking roach on bread punch for 8lb 12oz and second place.

I caught 111 roach, taken on bread punch, to weigh in 5lb 15oz and clinch third spot.

NEIL Burland (Tri-Cast Calder) won the Mirfield Open with some decent perch and roach which were enticed by worm and caster in a 7lb 10oz net. Chris Lees (Calder Anglers) got among the canal’s big perch to tip 6lb 14oz on the scales.

JAMES Cantello (Tri-Cast Highfield) continued his good form with victory in the Border Fisheries open match on Meridian Lake.

His 4lb 12oz catch was made up of small perch which fell to red maggot fished in the nearside margins.

Phil Daniels was second with red maggot fished down the track catching him a level 3lb of roach.

MIKE Curtis took first place in the latest Northern AA open match on the Adelphi Mill length of the Macclesfield Canal.

Bread punch over liquidised bread saw him catch from the start, with small roach making up 5lb 1oz from his end peg.

Shaun Paddon (Tri-Cast Highfield) was in the money again, with his bread punch fished at 11 metres catching him plenty of small roach which weighed 3lb 10oz.

DAVE Ireland (Tight Lines) was the winner of round three of the Twingate AC winter series fished on the club waters. His 3lb 9oz catch of mainly small carp and ide fell to chopped worm and caster.

Geoff Ogden (Tight Lines) weighed in 2lb of ide for second.
