Non-league football: MOSSLEY had Kyle McGonigle to thank for rescuing a point as they were held to a 1-1 Seel Park draw by Burscough.

The Lilywhites remain handily placed in 10th in the Evo-Stik League Division One North table, but will probably see this latest outcome as two precious points dropped.

Burscough’s Jordan Williams scored the only goal of a windswept first half.

Midfielder McGonigle then struck to earn Mossley a share of the spoils after 72 minutes.

Meanwhile, Mossley swooped to sign striker Porya Ahmadi on the eve of the Burscough game, and he was thrown straight in for his debut.

Ahmadi arrived at Seel Park from Division One North rivals New Mills. The former Salford City and Droylsden front man had scored eight goals this season for the Millers.

The Lilywhites return to action on Saturday when they face a potentially cracking Tameside derby at neighbours Droylsden.

OLDHAM BORO’s woes continued in the North-West Counties League First Division.

Rock-bottom Boro conceded another handful as they crashed 5-2 at divisional leaders Cammell Laird 1907.

Darren Scanlon opened the scoring for a Boro side who remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the table.

However, a hat-trick from Craig Cairns and further strikes from Paul Speed and Danny Dixon handed the Merseysiders a convincing 5-1 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes.

Scanlon struck again for Boro in the 84th minute, but the damage had already been done.

CHADDERTON’s scheduled league clash at Northwich Flixton Villa was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Chaddy’s next task is their eagerly-anticipated home FA Carlsberg Vase fourth round tie against AFC Mansfield on Saturday. Boro will host Eccleshall in the league on the same day.
