PGA NORTH are inviting teams from across the country to peg up in England’s Golf Coast 54-hole Pro-am at the end of April at Formby, West Lancs and Royal Birkdale.

The inaugural event, last year, was such a success that interest from outside the region prompted an unprecedented move by the Bolton-based operation to open it up nationwide.

The first round will be at Formby on April 28, followed by West Lancs then Royal Birkdale over the ensuing two days.

Teams will comprise one PGA professional and three amateurs, with the presentation of prizes held at Birkdale.

Entering a team costs £1,500. See “pga.info” online or call PGA North on 01204 496137.

There’s a £7,000 prize fund.

OLDHAM GEMS began their 2015 programme with a singles Stableford and Jack Simpson was out on his own with 25 points from Brian Allen 22 and Keith Cowell 20.

Simpson then partnered Mike Dunkerley and Frank Lawrence to 55 points to win the subsidiary team competition.

The first half of the Crompton and Royton Winter League order of merit has been won by Mark Barrett with a fine total of 46, just ahead of son, Steven on 38.
