NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL:

CHADDERTON’S big day ended in desperate disappointment as they lost 5-0 at home to AFC Mansfield in the FA Carlsberg Vase.

The MCA Stadium was buzzing before the game as Chaddy prepared to go head-to-head against the Northern Counties East League outfit in the fourth round – the furthest the local side had ever reached.

The visitors from the East Midlands were clinical on the day.

Chaddy’s stunned joint-boss Mark Cook said: “The lads just didn’t perform. I think some of them froze a bit. We never really got going and Mansfield were a good, really well-organised team.

In front of 166 spectators, Chris Timons and Craig Mitchell scored in the first half for Mansfield, before Tristan Whitman, Mitchell and Jordan Vilums pounced after the break to send the visitors through.

Now it’s time for Chadderton to focus on a concerted push for the North-West Counties League First Division play-offs. They are unbeaten in the league in eight games ahead of Saturday’s trip to table-topping Atherton Collieries.

The North-West Counties League's other representative in the Vase last 32 – Premier Division Glossop – won their fourth-round tie 1-0 at Worksop Town thanks to an extra-time winner from Jason Carey.

MOSSLEY produced a clinical first-half performance as they sunk struggling Ossett Town in the Evo-Stik League Division One North at a bitterly cold Seel Park.

The Lilywhites stormed to a convincing 3-0 victory thanks to strikes from Tom Pratt (two) and Kyle McGonigle in the first period.

The victory edged Mossley up a place to ninth in the table ahead of their next league fixture, another home game against Farsley on Saturday.

OLDHAM BORO’S scheduled North-West Counties League First Division clash at Atherton LR was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. They are next in action at Cheadle Town on Saturday.
