DARTS: PAUL Cartwright produced a breathtaking display for Oldham’s Lancashire Super Eights Elite League team.

He averaged a stunning 111.33 for every trio of darts in the fixture away to Bury. So it was no surprise Cartwright swept aside his shell-shocked opponent 4-0.

He won the first leg in 14 darts, the second in 16, then 15 and finally 11 to cap a wonderful show.

Oldham player Mick Kenway couldn;t believe what he saw: “It was a world-class performance — the place erupted when Paul’s average came up on screen at the end.

“I’ve watched a lot of darts for a long time, but I’ve never seen anything like that before. It was very special.”

To put Cartwright’s effort into perspective, the best three-dart average in the PDC World Championships was 111.21 by the great Phil Taylor in 2002. This year’s PDC champion Gary Anderson averaged 97.68, runner-up Taylor 100.60.

FIVE Oldham town team players are in the county squad for this weekend’s trip to Essex.
The quintet are Carl Sneyd, Mark McGeeney, Dave Adshead, Dave Airey and Dave Rawstron.
