Rashid Hussain: scam warning
CRICKET: OPPORTUNISTS have set up a scam to cash in on the fake recruitment of pro cricketers.
Oldham Cricket Club has received inquiries from cricketers all over the world offering their services at the Pollards.
This week the Chron received an email from the grandfather of a South African cricketer asking for confirmation that Oldham offered contracts to overseas players.
Oldham captain Rashid Hussain said the club’s identity had been hijacked by scam operators in America.
Hussain said lucrative contracts of up to £4,000 per month were mentioned by some of the players
contacting the club: “How could Oldham possibly afford that?” he said.
Hussain said: “Cricketers all over the world are being offered lucrative contracts by people saying they are representing clubs. The player has to pay £850 to cover paperwork relating to immigration and visas. Then they disappear with the money.” Hussain has reported the matter to the police.
