BILAL Malik, who helped Glodwick to their first Saddleworth and District Cricket League title in 2014, has died aged 23 of cancer.

Glodwick chairman Dave Chaloner said: “We’re all devastated. Bilal’s attitude and enthusiasm for the club were infectious, his manners were impeccable and the standards he set for others exemplary.

Malik came to Oldham as an 11 year old with his aunt, uncle and extended family.

He joined the Glodwick club in 2007, and soon became a popular presence.

He became ill in August 2014 and passed away on Friday. The funeral, at Ronald Street mosque, was attended by more 500 mourners - including 25 from the cricket club and Eddie Bayliss, chairman of the Saddleworth League.

His body was flown to Pakistan for burial by his parents.
