FOOTBALL: SPRINGHEAD produced the shock of the round in defeating current FBT Manchester League champions Hindsford 2-0 to move into the semi-finals of the Gilgryst Cup.
’Head went ahead seven minutes before the break when a fine cross by Ryan Hanson was handled inside the box by a Hindsford centre half.
The local side was still a threat after the restart and further chances were spurned as Matt Dell saw his effort blocked on the line, while Clayton Ince saved well from Hanson.
With two minutes to go, Hanson broke well and after a fine run, his kick deceived Ince and landed in the back of the net.
Royton Town were also in terrific form in the Gilgryst Cup, triumphing 3-0 against Manchester Gregorians thanks to strikes from Wayne Dean, Billy Dempsey and Danny Gilmartin.
Avro secured an impressive 3-1 Manchester Challenge Trophy victory at Heywood St James’.
In Division One, high-flying Uppermill were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Wilmslow Athletic.
Jordan Stepien was on target.
