OLDHAM firsts are on track to achieve their goal of finishing third in North Division Two South-West.
In an excellent weekend they scored two wins, both 1-0. Oldham headed to Stockport Bramhall hoping to atone for the disappointment of losing to leaders Lymm seven days earlier.
The side started brightly and enjoyed plenty of possession, but failed to score
Oldham flew out of the blocks at the start of the second half, and were rewarded with the decisive goal.
Yvonne Jackson won a short corner, from which Karen Rowley found Louise Howard. She side-stepped the on-rushing defender before making space to reverse-stick the ball into the corner of the goal.
Stockport then laid siege to the Oldham goal but were unable to find a way through.
Members of the club’s second string stepped up to the plate as Oldham, missing five key players, travelled to Urmston.
In awful weather conditions, the visitors were denied on several occasions by the ’keeper. But she could do nothing to prevent striker Karen Rowley putting Oldham ahead before the break.
Despite pressure, Oldham stayed resilient until the final whistle.
EXCITED members of Oldham Women’s Hockey Club will be put through their paces by Olympic medallist Nicola White at tonight’s training session. The England and Great Britain star plays for Women’s Hockey League Premier Division side Holcombe.
