Hats off to Old Hough Farm

Angling: OLD Hough Farm Fishery is making a name for itself as a venue that throws up good weights consistently.

In the match on Big Max Lake, Matthew Roberts (Matrix) claimed first place thanks to the 14-metre pole, 6mm pellet and swimstim groundbait tempting 29lb 12oz of small carp and f1s. Failsworth rod Ken Power (Tri-Cast Highfield) had to wait until late on for bites, but he made up for lost time with 27lb 14oz of mostly f1s for second..

JIM Evans topped the Monarch AC members match on the club water with a superb 18lb 14oz bag of silvers on waggler and maggot. Darren Sixsmith (Roxy Angling) was the runner-up, with his pole, feeder and maggot netting a level 7lb of silvers.

I HAD a pleasure-fishing session on the Newbridge length of the River Weaver — and I had a great time with a bite every put-in. Double-hooking with a tiny feeder and red maggot on each hook, I attracted small roach before switching to double and treble maggot for 33 skimmers and three bream for an overall weight of 15lbs.

The venue is so good, anglers are able to catch on the tip, long and short pole, whip, long rod and bolo float as well as standard waggler.

I TOOK part in the last of the Wakefield AC open matches on the Calder and Hebble Canal, where I drew peg eight. That was a good result as the peg had produced 11lbs of fish in the previous matches.

It was a cold day, so I reckoned that the fish would be in three feet of water rather than tight across.

After a slow first 20 minutes I got roach and perch to 12 ounces with almost every cast. I expected around 15lbs and was pleasantly surprised with a second-best 20lbs pounds 7oz.

THE penultimate round of the Twingates AC members-only winter league is on Sunday, with the final match on Sunday, March 15. The draw is at 9am and the pools are £10 all in. To book, call in at Tight Lines. Shaw.

TODMORDEN AS waters will welcome a further stock of carp on March 12.
