Howard’s joy as Heyside go marching on

FOOTBALL: HEYSIDE extended their unbeaten run to 12 games with a 4-1 win at Lepton Highlanders in Division Two of the Huddersfield League.
Heyside’s opener came after 12 minutes when Danny Wooliscroft teed up Chris Ollerton and he beat the ’keeper from close range.
Michael Ward doubled Heyside’s lead 10 minutes later. Latching onto Jordan Smithies ball over the Lepton defence, he beat the offside trap before lobbing over the advancing ’keeper from 30 yards out.
Away custodian Jack Suttie had little to do, and Wooliscroft made it 3-0 10 minutes before half time with a stunning half-volley from 25 yards.
The second half saw Heyside control proceedings without the same intensity, but the fourth goal came on the hour mark when a Daniel Dunn free-kick was met by the head of Ward.
Lepton continued to battle, though, and scored a consolation goal in the 70th minute.
Heyside face fourth-placed Cumberworth at Crompton House tomorrow (2.15pm).
Diggle edged out Colne Valley by the odd goal in seven to make progress in the Huddersfield FA Cup.
In the Huddersfield FA Trophy, Uppermill crushed Salendine Nook 8-0 thanks to Adam Fitzgerald (four), Chris Barlow, Josh Barlow, Si Poulter and Chris Taylor.
