FOOTBALL:

JOINT-boss Peter Band has saluted a collective effort after Mossley won the Evo-Stik League Division One North February club of the month award.

The Lilywhites beat Ossett Albion, Radcliffe Borough and Warrington Town during the month, and drew at big-spending Spennymoor Town. They also went into next month’s Manchester Premier Cup final.

Band, whose side hasn’t been beaten since December 20, said: “Me and Lloyd (fellow joint-manager Morrison) are really pleased with the award. It’s been a real team effort this year. Everyone has put in plenty of hard work and it looks like it’s paying off. We’re on a terrific run.”

Mossley face Bamber Bridge in a league clash tonight. Three points could put the side into fifth place — the third of four play-off spots.

“Let’s hope winning the award doesn’t put the kiss of death on us,” mused Band.

Tonight’s match kicks-off at 7.45pm.

CHADDERTON’S hopes of reaching the North-West Counties League First Division play-offs were dented by a 5-1 hammering at Atherton Collieries last night.

Jordan Cover scored the only goal of the first half for the hosts, before the visitors collapsed after the restart.

Mark Truffas, Mark Battersby, Tom Shaw and Matt Boland added further goals for Colls, while Dan Murray’s late strike was a mere consolation. Chadderton host Holker Old Boys on Saturday.

Tonight sees Oldham Boro in action as they travel to Ashton Town for a Reusch First Division Cup quarter-final tie.
