BOXING:

DELPH welterweight prospect Andy Kremner marched convincingly to his fourth straight professional victory on Saturday at Manchester's Victoria Warehouse.

Kremner (22) took on Nuneaton tough guy Kristian Laight on the VIP Promotions show at Trafford Park, and won each of the four rounds as championship referee Ian John-Lewis awarded a richly-deserved 40-36 decision.

It was a sweet victory for Kremner, who could scarcely conceal his delight: “I was red hot. That was the best performance of my professional career by far,” he said.

“Everything I’d worked on with my trainer, John Murray, was spot on. I was pleased with my combinations, body punching, and I rolled Laight a couple of times. The referee thought about stopping the fight a couple of times.

“I’m buzzing because Laight is a tough kid who can make opponents look ordinary even when he loses. But the referee went over to John after the fight and praised my performance. He told him he’s got a hell of a kid. That was music to my ears when I heard, because he’s a top class ref.”

Kremner is now set to take a well-earned holiday before returning to ring action - perhaps in a six-round fight
